DID you miss out on a place in your chosen course? There are other alternatives, and they are just around the corner.
Healesville Living and Learning Centre is offering a host of courses in 2006 that have been carefully chosen to fill a need within the local and wider community.
The focus of the centre is to provide training that is appealing, relevant and provides pathways into jobs and further education.
According to program co-ordinator Karen Meuleman, the first step in providing good training is to keep your ear to the ground, listen to others and to think “outside the square”.
Some of the new courses on offer are hairdressing, garment design and development, furniture making, business studies, integration aide training, professional video making, and writing for a purpose.
The centre will continue to offer core subjects such as bookkeeping, MYOB, computer training at all levels, food safety and hospitality training, first aid and a wide range of special interest subjects, which are constantly changing and evolving according to demand.
All of these courses deliver a range of skills within a course structure that is fun and engaging.
The centre’s target groups are those who are looking to start out in a career, or make a change in career and those thousands of people in the region who are, or would like to be self-employed.
The centre is also fortunate to have a highly competent literacy tutor who has helped many people master their reading and writing.
In 2006, there will be a similar service available to help with practical numeracy skills. This all adds up to a great asset for the people within the region – quality training with engaging, experienced tutors, in a pleasant welcoming environment.
Anyone interested in any of the courses offered at the centre should pick up a brochure from their local library, Shire of Yarra Ranges service centre, or shopping centre.
Phone inquiries are also welcome on 5962 5982 and a brochure will be posted on request.
The centre is conveniently located at 1 Badger Creek Rd, Healesville.
