VICTORIA Police last week made public the location of all speed cameras throughout Victoria in a move designed to reduce the state’s road toll.
The list of speed camera locations reveals that there are 26 mobile speed camera sites in the Yarra Valley (refer to list), but no red light cameras.
There are four mobile speed cameras located on the Melba Highway between Yarra Glen and Castella, four along the Warburton Highway between Wandin and Warburton, and six on the Maroondah Highway between Chirnside Park and Narbethong.
The list shows there are four mobile speed camera locations in Healesville, and three each in Lilydale, Chirnside Park and Kinglake West.
There is also one mobile speed camera location in Powelltown, Woori Yallock, Wesburn, Yarra Junction and Warburton one in Coldstream, Dixons Creek and Yarra Glen.
Motorists can view the location of all speed cameras across the state online at http://www.justice.vic.gov.au/speedcameras.
Victoria Police assistant commissioner of traffic, Noel Ashby, said police were prepared to take any reasonable measure needed in order to slow motorists down on Victorian roads to reduce the road toll.
“On the one hand, this is about ensuring Victoria Police is open and transparent with the Victorian community, while on the other, we are prepared to do whatever it takes to stop people killing themselves and others on the roads,” Mr Ashby said.
“If just one motorist logs onto the internet, takes a mental note of a speed camera location and makes the choice to slow down, that’s potentially one life saved.”
Along with speed camera locations, Victoria Police’s Mobile Camera Policy and Operations Manual is also available online.
