HEALESVILLE expat Sonya Weir is all revved up about raising funds to fight breast cancer.
An avid motorcyclist, Sonya (Hardinge) now lives in Croydon, but on Sunday, 23 October, she will be back in Healesville on her ‘96 Virago, as part of the Women’s International Motorcycle Association’s Pink Ribbon Motorcycle ride.
Last year the ride raised $10,000 for the Cancer Council and Sonya and her friends in WIMA are hoping for an even better result this year.
“It’s not just for the girls,” Sonya said.
“The ride is for everyone. It has been well supported by the motorcycling community in the past and it is building up to be not only a great day out here at Maroondah Dam but a fantastic spectacle of bikes coming through the valley.”
The ride will start at the Burvale in Burwood at 10am, go out to Yarra Glen and back to Healesville.
The event is supported by Parks Victoria who have made Maroondah Reservoir Park available for a fun family day for the motorcyclists, their families and the wider Yarra Valley community.
“We are going to have lots of things happening throughout the day including a trade show, exhibitions, prize giveaways, a sausage sizzle and other fun things for families,” Sonya said. “It is going to be a great day and a great way to help raise funds and awareness for such an important cause.” To register for the ride, contact Nola MacGregor on 0404 548 276 or email pinkribbonride2005gmail.com.
Sonya is pink and proud of it
