WHETHER by coincidence or design, Silvan’s Drewitt family has hit on a garden combination, which has something of interest for everyone.
The extensive garden features a model railway winding through a miniature English village.
Colin, Marj and son Tim open the garden each year and this year will donate part of the proceeds to the cancer ward of Epworth Eastern Hospital.
For gardeners the vista of rare and unusual bulbs and plants, a breathtaking indoor daffodil display and the opportunity to buy plants, bulbs and flowers is enough reason to go along each year.
The model railway is an extra delight, which Marj said has become a real drawcard.
“What we find with the people who come along to the open garden is that the wife drools over the garden and the flowers and the husband drools over the trains,” she said.
The railway is designed to fit the garden landscape in proportion to the plants and the houses, bridges and other buildings, which are hand-made by Colin.
The railway is part business and a big part pleasure for Colin who sells model railway tracks, trains and accessories to enthusiasts throughout Australia.
Model trains will also be on sale on the day.
The garden at 8 Henderson Hill Road in Silvan will be open from 10am to 4.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 23 August to 1 September.
Phone Marj or Colin on 9737 9827 for further information.
