THE Victorian Over Sixties Cricket Association (VOSCA) team travelled to Mount Gambier to compete against South Australia in a friendly match of two old rivals.
Matches were played on two different venues, with the Metro and Country sides fielding their own squads.
South Australia came out on top in both matches with South Australia Metro 6/174 defeating Victoria Metro 9/146 at Frew Park and South Australian Country 7/208 defeating Victoria Country 156 at Marrist Park.
Victorian player Norm McLeod said that both venues were in terrific condition and the weather was overcast and quite pleasant until the change came through.
“The very blustery wind gusts had players and umpires chasing hats all over the ground,” McLeod said.
Since then the Victorian side travelled to Foster on 7 February to play a combined Foster and District Group of retired players.
One of the Foster District players had not played for over 30 years.
“I only hope that he was not sore the next day, but he did get to be involved in quite a bit of play,” McLeod said.
“But we did have a great day all round with the final scores being Ringwood 9/183 defeating Foster Districts 9/110.”
McLeod said that the Victorian team was looking forward to a return match at Foster in the new season.
The VOSCA side played their last game on 17 February at Le Page Park in Cheltenham and had a small presentation after the match to finish the year.
