THE Yarra Valley Youth Theatre Group is still very much alive according to the group’s president Howard Proctor.
“We’re always working on new projects and looking for new talent,” Mr Proctor said. “Anyone is welcome to come along and join in.”
Starting out in 2000, the Yarra Valley Youth Theatre Group has developed into an exciting group of young people that are passionate about their performance skills.
“It’s an opportunity for them to participate and be recognised as valued members of the community,” Mr Proctor said.
While they may have parted ways with older members from the Healesville group, who recently formed an independent group, Exit Theatre, the Yarra Valley Youth Theatre is still running in Healesville, and any young person interested in becoming a member is very welcome – the cost is just $2.
The Healesville group meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 9pm upstairs in the Memorial Hall while the Warburton group meets on Monday and Thursday from 6 to 9pm in the Warburton Arts Centre.
The Warburton group is currently rehearsing a comedy Mind Over Manor, to be presented on Friday, 30 and Saturday, 31 March at the Warburton Arts Centre.
The Healesville and Warburton groups have also joined forces for series of performances in April at the 1812 Theatre in Upper Ferntree Gully. They will perform two one-act plays dealing with issues as diverse as youth suicide and racial differences.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for kids in the valley to be seen and recognised for the great people that they are,” Mr Proctor said.
