IT’S official … all 33 Chum Creek Primary School students are future water savers!
The school was recently accredited as a Water – Learn it! Live it! school after completing all the milestones in the State Government water conservation program implemented by Yarra Valley Water.
The program was developed by Melbourne’s water utilities to teach students from years prep to 10 about water conservation.
Chum Creek is the smallest school in Yarra Valley Water’s service area to be accredited.
The program was delivered by Yarra Valley Water’s Nick Abroms, a qualified primary and secondary school teacher, and Chum Creek Primary School teacher Samantha Dunstan.
Ms Dunstan taught at Worawa Aboriginal College and, with Mr Abroms’ assistance it also became an accredited Water – Learn it! Live it! school.
Tony Kelly, managing director of Yarra Valley Water, said it was fantastic that Chum Creek Primary School is helping to lead the way in water conservation.
“The Water – Learn it! Live it! program is about creating fun and interactive ways to shape knowledge, attitudes and behaviours on sustainable water conservation – so that it becomes a life-long habit,” Mr Kelly said.
“It’s fantastic that Chum Creek Primary has taken up the challenge and I would encourage other schools in the area to register and help create a future generation of water savers.”
