IT MAY be sweltering in Healesville, but it’s as cold as ever at the North Pole.
You just had to be at Chum Creek Primary School last week to see that! The school had its annual visit from Santa on Wednesday and, as usual, he was heard but not seen.
It’s a tradition that each year prep and grade one children send their Christmas wish list off to Santa. And, every year he sends an early reply in a lump of ice, wrapped in Christmas paper and addressed to Chum Creek Primary School, Chum Creek, Australia.
Teacher Sue Wills said they never knew exactly when they were going to hear from him.
“Each year, when we are least expecting it, there will be a sudden crash on the classroom roof. We all rush outside to see him, but in all these years, there has never been a sighting yet,” she said.
Santa replies to all the students individually and there are squeals of delight as a flurry of chipping and hammering releases one plastic-wrapped letter after another.
Parent Debbie Wiessman said the older students enjoy and continue the tradition. “They remember their days in prep and keep the magic alive,” she said.
