
WINNING the title of Best Bacon in Victoria is just one of the many talents of Main Street Quality Butchers in Healesville.
The butchers, who took out the Best Bacon award at the state championships of the Victorian Sausage King and Small Goods competition last week, produce and stock an impressive selection of high quality meats.
Main Street Quality Butchers owner Stephen Hollis, who has been in the butcher business for 30 years, said the business prides itself on offering a wide variety of meats.
“Variety is key, as is quality and freshness, and we are experts at all of these as well as offering excellent customer service,” Mr Hollis said.
The butchers produce and stock more than 60 different meats including 15 different types of sausages, as well as an extensive range of spring lamb, dairy fed pork, La Ionica chemical free chicken and King Island Beef products.
Mr Hollis said the butchers, which supplies local restaurants, wineries and cafes, cater to all tastes and all lifestyles.
“Some customers come to us because they want a high quality traditional cut of meat that they want to prepare their own way from scratch,” he said.
“Other people, who want quick and easy meal options, come to us for our ‘ready to eat’ range.”
Some of the highlights of the ready to eat range include stir frys, shashliks, rissoles, schnitzels, cutlets, marinated chicken wings and kievs.
Mr Hollis said one of the other points of difference at the butchers, which makes all of it’s own small goods on site, is the attention staff give to customer service.
“This is really your friendly local butcher shop where customers are treated like people, not a number,” he said.
“We like to get to know our customers on a first name basis, and we make it our business to get to know what customers like.”
In addition to the friendly service the butchers offer highly competitive prices and they are experts when it comes to catering and special events.
“We supply meat for special occasions, give friendly advice on catering quantities and we are very happy to give cooking tips,” Mr Hollis said.
Main Street Quality Butchers is now taking orders for Christmas celebrations.
“We are taking orders for our homemade hams, which are cooked on the premises, for our cooked and smoked turkey rolls, for our pork and for Ray’s famous plum puddings,” Mr Hollis said.
They are also taking orders for seafood including fresh fish, prawns and crayfish.
