THE Noodies are set for a four-day invasion of the Yarra Valley.
The group, once described as a cross between the Rolling Stones, the Beverly Hillbillies and the Wiggles, will kick off their Australia Day long weekend tour at Cunninghams Hotel in Yarra Junction on Thursday, 25 January.
Day two is an Australia Day appearance at the Black Spur Inn at Narbethong, then across the mountain to the National Park Hotel at Kinglake on the Saturday and finishing on the Sunday at the Fox Hole in Healesville.
The band is made up of Healesville local Ewan Cloonan on guitar, Canberra expats Sam Martin on bass and Mick Patrick on fiddle.
Since the trio began three years ago, they have appeared at shows and festivals throughout New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
Cloonan says the Noodies started off as a bit of a joke … “A jazz trained double bass player, a classically trained violinist and a pub rock guitarist walk into a bar,” he teases, then adds, “no one has quite figured out the punch line yet!”
The group is well known for its upbeat original and cover tunes, tongue-in-cheek humour and appetite for a good time … not to mention the distinctive outfits.
“When three young men turn up to the gig in workman’s overalls calling themselves The Noodies it’s no wonder we sometimes get mistaken for a strip show!” Cloonan said.
“It’s always fun to keep the crowd guessing!”
While it’s not possible to tune into the band’s music in print, their trademark humour is another story.
“Our show is about as much fun as you can have with your gear on,” Cloonan continues, “… mostly ‘cause the overalls are too hard to get off”.
To check out Noodie music, Cunninghams is a good place to start. If you like what you hear you can follow the band on tour!
Nood up for the long weekend
