FOLLOWING the resignation of Ken Huchinson, the president and committee of the Healesville Greyhound Association (HGA) are delighted to announce the appointment of Gerrie Sneyders to the position of club manager.
A former manager of the Warragul Greyhound Racing Club, Sneyders returns to the greyhound industry after a break of four years during which time he ventured into the challenging field of professional thoroughbred training.
“Over the last couple of years I worked with the horse racing industry, but I’ve always loved the greyhound industry,” Sneyders said.
“I enjoy the sport, I love the animal and the people within the industry are good. It’s in my blood, once it’s in you, you can’t get it out.”
Sneyders said that he was looking forward to returning to the industry and the challenge of starting somewhere new.
“I am really looking forward to getting reacquainted with the many friends I have made during my 11 or so years at Warragul,” Sneyders said.
“The Healesville venue has such a great appeal and with the recent and planned upgrades, I believe there are exciting times ahead for the club.”
President Gary Thorneycroft said Sneyders was a popular figure with many of the industry’s participants, and that his “hands on” approach to management will be suited to the Yarra Valley course.
“The committee is extremely pleased to have been able to secure the services of someone with Gerrie’s experience and popularity amongst owners and trainers,” Thorneycroft said.
“We are starting to see many of the state’s higher profile trainers beginning to realise the benefits of using our track and with the appointment of Gerrie Sneyders as manager, I also can see some exciting times ahead for the club.”
