A NEW doctor is flying in from New South Wales to start a brand new practice in Yarra Glen at Cameron House.
Jawad Albandar will leave his practice of 12 years to start afresh in Yarra Glen with his family.
After he visited Yarra Glen last week and signing on the dotted line things are looking up for residents who feared they would be left without a doctor after the news that the Yarra Glen Clinic would close at the end of the month.
The swift replacement is largely thanks to the Yarra Glen Chamber of Commerce and Yarra Glen Township Group, who have been working hard to ensure the town is not left without a doctor.
Chamber of Commerce president Marjorie Woolands said it was now important to get everything in place for when Dr Albandar arrives.
“Basically we have to transform a house into a surgery in a matter of weeks,” Ms Woolands said.
“It must be difficult to establish a new practice in town so we need the community to get behind him and support him as much as possible.”
Ms Woolands said they were still hoping for some funding to come through so they could start renting the house from 1 October.
“We also hope to get more of the community involved,” Ms Woolands said.
“Right now we need as much help as we can get to renovate a house and make it a clinic.”
