BRAD Wing-Quay and Nicole Livingstone took out the Open and Youth categories of the first Limelight Kudos for Musos Showcase final, held in Warburton on Sunday 17 February.
Fifteen finalists across the two categories vied for the kudos, with the judges determining that Nicole’s song, Not that Kinda Girl and Brad’s Yesterday is Coming Back, were the standout original compositions on the day.
The judges, Mike Rudd, Wendy Ealey and Visnja, noted both songs performed strongly in the key judging areas of melody, lyric and structure.
“They were impressed overall by the quality of the songs and the presentation,” said Limelight coordinator Dave Walker, who was thrilled with the event.
“We had 145 people come along to watch the 15 original singer/songwriters,” he said.
“I couldn’t have been happier.
“What was even more pleasing was the strong camaraderie shown by all the performers; there was a jam session out at the back after the show and everyone was really supportive of each other.
“It augurs well for the future of Limelight that we have been able to attract such high quality artists to the stage.”
Mr Walker said the Limelight team was looking forward to continuing to build the momentum generated by the concert with plans for a series of showcase concerts and more workshops throughout the shire during the year.
Mr Walker thanked the Shire of Yarra Ranges and local businesses who had supported the event in its first year.
“We look forward to working with them again to deliver another Limelight Showcase in 2009,” he said.
