THEY often say there’s more to something than first meets the eye, and in terms of the Upper Yarra Community House there has never been a more-truer statement.
The UYCH or Community House, as it’s affectionately known, provides a great multitude of social and learning opportunities right across the region.
It has its head office in the main street of Yarra Junction and administers a range of education and training courses and the community’s only Centrelink access office,
From the UYCH Children’s Centre and OSH Programs in Little Yarra Road, the Cerini Centre Youth Education and Training facility in Warburton, to its Community Living Office in Healesville, the organisation is a valuable resource to people of all ages and stages of life.
“Whether it’s delivering accredited training, supporting an older person in their home, or arranging flexible childcare options for a young family, our focus is always on the individual and making sure that everyone who comes through our organisation experiences a true sense of worth and achievement,” said Maxine Burke, UYCH general manager.
U3A Yarra Ranges
ONE of the many activities of U3A Yarra Ranges was a recent trivia and sausage sizzle night held at the Janet Campbell Centre in Tower Street, Kilsyth.
The night was a social occasion for members who attend the various classes offered by U3A at both the Janet Campbell Centre and also its George Street location in Lilydale.
Other activities, beside classes, include periodic outings to events such as the Craft Show, Garden Show and monthly lunches.
Classes for the second term are starting and most still have vacancies for new members.
These classes are as varied as Philosophy to Line Dancing, German language to book clubs.
There is something for everyone at very little cost.
There are no qualifications necessary and no exams, Just learning for the fun of it. To receive an information package for U3A Yarra Ranges, which caters for mature-aged people who want to keep their mind and body active, contact the centre.
