HEALESVILLE hospital recognised the outstanding efforts of the hospital’s nursing team at an afternoon tea to celebrate International Nurses Day, which is celebrated on Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
Held on 12 May, the event was attended by Maternal and Child Health nurses and other staff.
The small group of nurses joined more than 83,000 registered nurses across Victoria who celebrated the day.
Australian Nursing Federation (Vic Branch) secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said nurses were one of the most trusted professions throughout the world.
“Nurses are there when you are born, when you die, when you are sick and in pain, during surgery, when your children enter the world, when your children are sick or injured and when you are old and frail,” Ms Fitzpatrick said.
“International Nurses Day is an important date on the nursing calendar because it gives our busy profession and the community a chance to reflect on how special it is to be a nurse and what a privileged position we have in the community.”
