AS many local footballers are getting ready for the upcoming season, the Healesville Football Club is looking froward to an exciting year.
The year 2008 marks 120 years of football in Healesville, which is a significant milestone for the club and football in general.
President of the club, Gary Hay said that he was looking forward to an exciting year both on and off the field.
“We are hoping to have another successful season, and are going to hold functions throughout the year to celebrate the milestone of 120 years,” Hay said.
The Healesville Football Club has played in the 1st division of the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League (YVMDFL) since its foundation in 1956.
Since then the club has won six senior premierships and numerous others at both the reserve and Under 18s level.
Hay said that the inclusion of the netball club to the football club has made a big difference to the club, and said that they were ultimately working towards adding netball courts to the Don Road Reserve-sporting complex.
“We are hoping to make the sporting complex a regional facility,” Hay said.
This year the club has 80 registered players and over 200 members and want as many people as possible to get involved in the club at either the football or netball level.
Hay said that the club was holding many celebrations over the year to mark the milestone and would like to invite everyone who played a part in the club’s 120-year history to return.
