THE Greens are the only party that have the courage to tackle climate change, according to the new Greens candidate for Casey.
Salore Craig may have only just launched her campaign but that hasn’t stopped her from joining the controversial climate change debate.
“Neither of the old parties have the courage to make the decisions necessary to tackle climate change,” Ms Craig said.
“The Coalition will not commit to carbon emission reducation targets and Labor’s targets are a token gesture with no real substance.”
A Greens member for more than five years, Ms Craig has given up her job as a receptionist to campaign full-time for the Greens party.
“This is an extremely important election in terms of Australia’s future and I am very proud to be representing the only party that has genuine long-term solutions to address the challenges we face as a nation,” Ms Craig said.
Ms Craig recently launched her campaign at the Lillydale Lake Community Rooms with fellow Greens candidate Richard Di Natale and Mayor Tim Heenan on board to give their support.
“It’s great to see the dynamics of a young person getting into local politics,” Cr Heenan said.
Dr Di Natale described his fellow party member as a ‘strong candidate.’
“Salore is a strong candidate of the high calibre we are now seeing in the Australian Greens and is dedicated to working towards a sustainable future for this wonderful country,” he said.
While climate change will remain high on her agenda, other important issues Ms Craig will address include public transport, water, industrial relations laws and the Montrose Quarry.
“I’ll be doing a lot of doorknocking and just getting out and meeting people,” Ms Craig said.
“I think it’s important for people to meet me and see who I am and what I stand for.”
