HEALESVILLE’S natural environment will benefit from a concert held recently at Badger Creek.
Healesville Environment Watch Inc. (HEWI) received the door takings from the recent Writers and Rhythm event held in Badger Creek.
HEWI secretary Maureen Bond said the event typified the good work done by volunteers in the community.
“The Yarra Valley region supports an amazing number and variety of community groups formed by volunteers willing to share their interests and abilities with other local residents,” she said.
“One such group, Writers and Rhythms, was initiated in 1992, when the first Gateway Festival was proposed to highlight community activities in Healesville. The original duo, Catherine Nolan and David Johnston, have continued to promote original writing, poetry readings, sublime choral music, new composers and a diversity of talent ever since.
“This dynamic pair presented another group of local musicians and an award-winning writer, at a community concert in the Nolan Vineyard at Badger Creek,” she said.
Ms Bond said the event was an outstanding success from every angle – performers praised the amazing acoustical properties of the venue, the sun shone and the entertainment and food was excellent.
“There were three inspiring hours of entertainment, with tea breaks to enjoy the tasty food that had been baked by younger members of the Nolan families,” Ms Bond said.
“The proceeds from these cake sales went to the Multiple Sclerosis appeal and door takings were donated to HEWI.
“We, in turn, will be able to use some of this generous donation to continue our indigenous garden project at the Healesville Living and Learning Centre, which provides such a relaxing and sustainable setting for the many students visiting the centre.”
