YARRA Valley Community Health Service offers a range of health and wellbeing services for men of all ages and from all walks of life.
Whether you are seeking help or advise with physical health, emotional wellbeing or relationships, Yarra Valley Community Health provides a range of options for healthy, active living.

Diabetes management

The diabetes management team will help you decrease the risk of complications from diabetes and improve your quality of life.
This can be achieved by monitoring blood glucose levels and diet, foot care, providing current diabetes information and consulting with you doctor.
The group meets Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in Healesville and Yarra Junction. Cost is $7.

Diabetes education

For individuals newlydiagnosed or those needing a refresher program. Information is presented by diabetes educators, dietitians, physiotherapists and podiatrists.
The groups meets on the first Friday of the month alternating between Healesville and Yarra Junction. The cost is $10, lunch is provided and bookings are essential.

Time for change

A program for men wanting to improve their relationships. This is a Family Violence Prevention program jointly facilitated by a male and a female health professional. The group is designed to help you learn new communication skills, deal with anger effectively, and give you clues to taking responsibility for you behaviour.
The group meets on Monday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in Healesville and the cost is $5 per session.

Managing Anxiety and Help Lines

The service has been offering an eightweek program designed for people who experience anxiety and panic attacks. The course has been conducted on Thursday afternoons in Healesville.
A men’s help line is also available on 1300 789 978 and a men’s referral service is available by phoning 1800 065 973.

Water Exercise Program

If you find it difficult to exercise on land this program is ideal. It is a great way to loosen up those stiff and sore joints and to strengthen your muscles.
Sessions are held at the Yarra Junction pool on Monday and Wednesday from 10.30am to 11.15am and at the Healesville Indoor Pool on Tuesday from 8.30am to 9.30am and Friday from 8.45am to 9.45am.
Cost is between $3.50 and $3.80 per session.
Strength Training for Seniors

As we get older we lose a significant amount of strength. This can make everyday things like getting out of a chair, walking or doing the household chores much more of a challenge. This program is appropriate for anyone over 55 and for all fitness levels.
The sessions are held in Healesville on Monday and Thursday from 9am to 10am and each session costs $2.

Quit Short Course

Did you know that tobacco is the only legally available consumer product that kills people when it is used entirely as intended?
The Quit course with Quitline support will assist you to understand why you smoke, identify smoking triggers and learn ways to deal with withdrawal, cravings and weight gain.
Men’s Out and About

These fortnightly groups provide regular recreational activities for men who find it difficult to access social activities.
Participants are picked up from and returned to their homes and outings are at an affordable cost. Trips are conducted in Healesville and in the Upper Yarra area. Pick up is at 9.30am and participants are returned home by 4pm.

Prostate Cancer Support Group

A support group for men and their families, which meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm in Healesville. Meetings include guest speakers, demonstrations and information sharing.

Yarra Valley Cancer
Support

This group supports people living with cancer and their carers.
It meets on the first Tuesday of the month in Healesville at 1.30pm and there is no fee.

Parkinson’s Support

A support group for ambulatory people with Parkinson’s Disease and their carers.
Guest speakers provide updated information, social activities and discussions relevant to manage the disease.
The group meets on the third Friday of the month in Healesville from 10am to noon. There is no fee.
