DESPITE receiving 40mm of rain the day before, fine conditions prevailed on Sunday for Heritage Golf and Country Club Yarra Valley Cup.
It was almost deja vu for Yarra Valley Racing, which had to transfer last year’s cup to Cranbourne because of flash flooding.
Sales and marketing manager Brian Moyle said the day was a huge success and everything went according to plan.
More than 3600 people attended the day’s festivities, which included food and wine from the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group, fashions on the field and kids’ rides and activities.
Seymour horse Mr Toff won the cup by a couple of lengths in a fairly easy result.
He was ridden by Melbourne rider Blake Shinn and trained by Seymour trainer David Bourne, and his New Zealand owners Mrs D. Kennedy and Mrs E. McIntosh would have been happy with their $103,000 prize.
Some local talent was witnessed throughout the day with Yarra Valley resident Bonnie Anderson singing the national anthem before the race and Yarra Glen resident Britney Morris winning Fashions on the Field.
But the day wasn’t all about races, with plenty of food, wine and activities to occupy visitors, enabling families and friends to check out the races and also sample some of the Yarra Valley’s best produce.
