SPORTS clubs in the Yarra Ranges will be dressed for success after the Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, announced the successful applicants of the Sporting Uniform Grants Program.
Mr Merlino said that 16 clubs in the area would receive up to $1,000 to purchase essential sports uniforms and footwear.
“Grassroots sport is going from strength to strength in the Yarra Ranges, but many local clubs lack the resources and funding to properly equip their teams,” Mr Merlino said.
“New uniforms will play an important part in reinforcing the clubs’ identities and build morale and character among team mates.”
Mr Merlino said that the funding was part of the Brumby government’s $1.5 million Our Club, Our Future Sporting Uniforms Program.
“One of the greatest feelings when playing for your local club is the moment when you pull on your team’s colours. We want to give clubs across Victoria the opportunity to feel that sense and belonging.”
The 16 clubs to receive funding under the initiative include Bilton Academy of Irish Dancing Parents and Friends Association, Coldstream Cricket Club, Eastern Eagles Basketball Club, Gruyere District Cricket Club, Lilydale and Yarra Ranges Little Athletics Centre, Lilydale Artistic Skating Club, Lilydale Cricket Club, Lilydale Eagles Cricket Club, Lilydale Ejays Softball Club, Lilydale Tennis Club, Mooroolbark Auskick, Seville Cricket Club, Silvan Cricket Club, Upwey-Tecoma Bowls Club, Yarra Glen Junior Football Club and Yarra Junction Junior Cricket Club.
