MT EVELYN surgery has opened a branch clinic in Seville providing the community with a long-awaited local medical service.
The Seville Medical Centre was officially opened by MP Tony Smith last week.
Mt Evelyn Surgery principal, Dr Anthony Palmer, said there had been calls from Seville to open a clinic in the past but the addition of another doctor to the practice had made the expansion possible.
“With the Federal Government’s Outer Metropolitan Program we have been able to attract a really good doctor, Dr Jasper Tiong, to the practice and this has enabled us to provide this service to the people of Seville.”
He said with medical centres closing down and doctors moving from the region the services of Dr Tiong would fill a service void.
“Jasper is an Australian-trained, very experienced and high-calibre doctor who is a great asset to the practice and the Mt Evelyn and Seville communities,” Dr Palmer said.
Mr Smith said the new practice was a great win for Seville, and a great example of the benefits of Government and community working together.
“Dr Anthony Palmer deserves credit for his efforts and the commitment in opening the practice,” he said.
“New Federal Government incentives and funding for outer-metropolitan areas played a role, but so too did Dr Palmer’s work and commitment to making this practice a reality.”
