MORE than 1000 people turned out in support of Launching Place CFA and the Upper Yarra SES on Sunday to make their major fund-raiser a great success.
The Family Fun Day held at Archery Park in Launching Place was buzzing with families out to enjoy the rides, music and food, browse the market stalls and see their local SES and CFA volunteers in action demonstrating their skills.
“It has been exhausting, but we’re very happy with the day,” said Launching Place CFA spokesperson Sue Hoffman.
“I’m sure the current fire situation contributed to so many people coming along and being aware of the need to support their local emergency service groups,” she said.
Eight of the brigade’s volunteers had been involved in fighting fires throughout the week leading up to the event.
Ms Hoffman said the event showed what could be achieved when so many different individuals and groups in a community pull together.
She thanked the Rotary Club of Upper Yarra who catered for the event and have pledged the proceeds to the fire brigade and SES, and Ian and Amanda Simmonds, owners of Archery Park.
“They are all tremendously supportive of us and do a great job as part of our community,” she said.
Funds raised on the day will be shared equally by the Launching Place CFA who are saving for a new truck, and the Upper Yarra SES.
