Centenarian passes away

HEALESVILLE’S oldest resident, Howard ‘Mick’ Vaughan, died on Monday last week, just two days shy of his 102nd birthday on 20 February.
Mr Vaughan, a builder by trade, lived in Healesville for more than 70 years and was widely and respectfully regarded as one of the town’s identities.
Mr Vaughan told the Mail when he turned 100 that there was no secret to his longevity.
“I’m just an ordinary, hard-working bloke who’s been fortunate,” he said.
“I don’t have any problems and I’ve had good family and friends.”
Those family and friends gathered at St John’s Anglican Church in Healesville on Wednesday to farewell “Mick” as he was known to so many, and to celebrate a job well done.
A tribute to Mr Vaughan will appear in the Mail next week.
