NO ELECTRIC guitars! No amplifiers! No PA systems! No stage lighting!
Sounds dim, but it will be anything but when some of Healesville’s best musicians perform totally ‘unplugged’ in a special free candlelit concert to mark Earth Hour on Saturday.
Earth Hour is a global event, focussing attention on the effect of excessive power consumption on global warming and the world’s ecology.
The venue, the Bodhi Tree Cafe at Healesville’s East end, will also be going ‘carbon neutral’ for the night, with a menu to suit.
“Chef Firak is even going to attempt to cook with next to no lighting,” said one of the organisers David Johnston.
“He’s hoping any burnt food won’t void the carbon neutrality aim!”
Concert performers include acappella singing group Singing for your Soul’s Sake, percussionist/guitarist Paul Sonsi, original band the Mondegreens, Maldon Folk Festival finalists the Hannafords, and award winning singer/songwriter Ewan Cloonan with special guest Ben O’Connell.
“The Earth Hour candlelit concert will actually run from 8pm till late, so we’re encouraging people to turn off the house lights, switch the TV off (at the power point), and enjoy a high energy performance with low energy consumption while helping make the world a better place,” Mr Johnston said.
The concert is on Saturday 29 March starting at 8pm. Phone 5962 4407.
