IN THE penultimate round before the Christmas break, Hoddles Creek’s Brent Derix got 208, and the closest match in Strachan Shield was the match between the “Big Cats”, Yarra Panthers and the Woori Yallock “Tigers”. Yarra Panthers, all out for 180, with T. Derham on 52 and Michael King 5/54, lost to Woori Yallock by just eight runs, all out for 188. Julian Smith was on 48, Rob Williams was 4/24 and T. Derham was 4/44.
Yarra Junction hosted Wandin and dismissed them for 94, with Dale Robertson on 5/27, Nathan Fall on 3/30, then reached 7/203 declared with Stephen Flutter 62 and David Lever 35 leading the runs tally. Wandin’s Wayne Ross again got into the wickets with 5/48. Wandin were 2/66 in their second innings at stumps with Justin Mays 46 not out.
Healesville 9/205 cc, with Ash Hamer 39 not out and Gary Frankovic 3/28, defeated Silvan 136 with only Rob Dipietrioantonio on 31 getting a score as both Glen Newbury and Darren Edwards excelled with the ball taking 6/36 and 3/35 respectively.
In a very strange match between Warburton Millgrove and Seville, with day one seeing Warburton dismissed for just 61 and Seville heading into day two with an overnight lead, on day two Seville were all out for only 106 with Michael Walker bowling a top spell to take 6 for 36 ably supported by Luke Darwells’ 3/19.
Warburton second innings of 4 for 118 declared Luke Darwell 46. Seville then went into bat with some 20 overs to play and reached 6/52 at stumps with Luke Darwell 4/26 and Gary Kear on 28 to achieve a win on the first innings.
As reported last week day one saw Mt Evelyn amass a score of 4/404. With the massive task Coldstream were all out for 157 – Cuthbertson 36, Zac Booth 2/2 and Jon Dalton 2/25.
In Strachan Shield Reserve, Seville’s Alex Bell took 6/31 to help his team defeat Warburton. Healesville got another large score of 5/324 cc, with Aaron Smith 110 and Richard Maile 74 not out in their win over Coldstream. Yarra Junction’s Matt Hammond with 53 and Norm Spakman defeated Silvan 57 and 116 with M. Sullivan 52, Norm Spakman 3/10 and Geoff Fall 3/16.
Woori Yallock were compulsorily closed at 9/240 with Dean Worlley 90 and Mt Evelyn’s Peter Kerr on 4/45 and Jarred Barden on 3/29 bowling well. Mt Evelyn in reply were all out for 210 – John Ferguson 3/50 and L. Martin 4/52.
In Finger Trophy (Divison 2 First XI) Marysville hosting Aura Vale batted first and were all out for 101 – D. Swinburne 5/28, S. Hall 4/48 and Aura Vale 6/104 – L. Stewart 4/36 and D. Reed 26 not out.
Gruyere District 7/293 cc with Matt Tilney on 92, Craig Cooper on 48, D. Maloney on 4/84, defeated Kinglake 92 and 70. Kinglake’s J. Morgan batting well in both innings with 41 and 52 not out, and Jarred Heal 30 in the first innings – Matt Tilney 5/23 and Luke Sarre 4/28. Launching Place 72 and 88, with J. Caulfield 41, J. Holland 6/20 and 3/9, Tom Davey 3/7, lost to Yarra Glen 173 with James Campion on 68. Hoddles Creek 8/328CC – Brent Derix on 208, defeated Powelltown 178 – Bill Simpson 119.
