THE first day of Round 7 in the D. J. Strachan Shield on Saturday generally saw the bowlers on top in the matches.
Wandin, who travelled to Woori Yallock, batted first and reached a reasonable 8/267cc with Jason Kennedy 90, Jason Rowe 41 Michael King 2/20. Woori Yallock will bat next week.
Yarra Junction hosted Mt Evelyn with the visitors batting first and being dismissed for only 85 runs.
Luke Jones was best with 23 while James Rogers led the bowling with 5/25 and Nathan Fall chipped in with 3/52.
At stumps Yarra Junction had achieved a first innings lead at 3 for 133 with Ben Lever with 59, Stephen Flutter 27 and Luke Jones taking 2 for 10.
Seville batted first at their home ground against reining premiers Warburton-Millgrove but were disappointing with the bat and were all out for 87.
Garth Woodford opened the batting and being the last man out toiled manfully to score 36. Richard Dicello on 33 was the only other batsman to make double figures.
Warburton’s Michael Walker took 3 for 21 and Cameron Darwell took 5 for 15.
At stumps Warburton-Millgrove are 2 for 26 with Dean Troyahn 2/10.
Yarra Panthers travelled to Silvan with the home side making first use of the wicket. Silvan, at stumps, was all out for 201 with Jamie Cornford on 61, Mark Appleby 56* not out.
Dean Capobianco took 6 for 52 and Michael Williams 3 for 40 for Yarra Panthers.
Healesville, who could do well to promote some of their bigger fish from the very low grades, reached 9 for 189 with M. Sawyer 72 not out, Brad Chandler 36 not out, John Pignataro 4 for 31, and Liam Doughty 4 for 48 against Coldstream.
In the very tight R. A. Finger Trophy, Gruyere Districts travelled to Queens Park and will have to bat well next week to reach Healesville’s 254.
Will Maile made 80, S. Campbell 37* and Matt Tilney took 5/76.
Wandin were all out for 172 with S. Black on 54, Dan Coppens on 30 and M. White taking 5 for 52. Woori Yallock were 1/19 in reply at stumps.
Seville reached 9 for 203cc with Paul Dicello playing a solid innings of 72, Scott Luckhurst 34, and Daniel Egan bowling well for the home side took 3 for 30 against Warburton Millgrove.
At Wickhams Road, Hoddles Creek made 260 with Brenton Derix on 75, Mike Batten 44, Jeremy Derix 37 and G Grindley 4 for 32 against Launching Place United.
