HUNDREDS of motorcyclists will cruise through the Yarra Valley as part of a charity fundraiser for Victoria Police this Sunday.
A major highlight of this year’s Ride to Remember, an annual event designed to raise money for the Blue Ribbon Foundation, will be Australia’s first Fire Brigade motorcycle leading the pack.
The ride will start from Clayton and wind its way for 99 kilometres to the Upper Yarra Reservoir.
The event is suited to all types of motorcycles, will make use of larger roads and will be escorted by police.
Blue Ribbon Foundation chief executive Neil Soullier said support offered by many motorcycle groups and clubs had been invaluable in preparation for the event.
“Since the idea of a memorial ride was first suggested by a group of motorcycle riders, it has gathered momentum and is now shaping up to be a very significant event,” Mr Soullier said.
“I’m also amazed at the number of corporate and sporting people who own bikes but rarely take them out of the garage so the Ride to Remember should encourage them to join us,” he said.
An entry fee of $15 per bike is charged, with pillion passengers and guests paying $5. Entry fees cover the cost of lunch.
Proceeds from the event will go towards funding new and improved emergency facilities in Victorian public hospitals
Barbecue and refreshments will be available at the finishing point with participants welcome to bring picnic hampers.
