
BASKETBALL is once again booming in Healesville.
“WITH every local primary school participating in Basketball Victoria’s McDonald’s Hoop Time Program over the next month, basketball is quickly becoming the sport to play in Healesville,” Healesville Hornets spokesperson Ben Turner said.
Aussie Hoops Oz Ball will again be run in Term 3 on a Wednesday night and Mr Turner said, with over 70 participants already this year the future is looking even brighter.
On Tuesday, 6 June, Badger Creek, Chum Creek, Toolangi, Middle Kinglake and Kinglake West Primary School participated in the first McDonald’s Hoop Time of the year for the Healesville area.
“All the children involved in the day had a fantastic time with Middle Kinglake Mercury winning the Future Stars section and Kinglake West winning the All Star Boys,” Mr Turner said. Both teams will represent the area in the state finals to be held latter in the year.
The grand final results were All Star Boys – Auto Qualify, Kinglake West Future Stars, Middle Kinglake Mercury 10 defeated Kinglake West Kings 2 and in the rookies, Middle Kinglake Mavericks 10 defeated Badger Creek Boomers 4.
Hoop Time Camp
Mr Turner said Healesville Basketball was proud to announce that they have also been able to lure Basketball Victoria’s McDonald’s Hoop Time Camp to the area during the June school Holidays.
The camp will run at the High School Stadium on 26-27 June between 9.30am-3.30pm.
“This is a major coup for local basketball, being able to attract a camp of this nature is fantastic for the basketball, and provides great opportunities for the local community.”
