HEALESVILLE resident Ashleigh Peck was the youngest member of the Victorian Under 17 cricket team that competed in the National competition earlier this month.
Ashleigh, 15, travelled with 12 other young girls to Sydney and Campbelltown to compete against all Australian states and territories excluding Tasmania.
The left-arm fast bowler opened bowling attacks in most of her matches, and describes her bowling form as of “good line and length”.
A former player for Healesville, Ashleigh now travels as far as Box Hill to play the sport she loves.
Ashleigh’s mother Vivienne Peck said that most of her daughter’s spare time is spent on cricket.
“Cricket is our life – she trains four times a week,” Vivienne said.
Ashleigh said she hoped to represent Australia in the future, and that training was an important aspect that would help her get to the next level.
“Training for the Victorian squad starts in June, over the winter season, it begins with 40 players and then cut down to 20,” Ashleigh said.
“We took 13 girls to Sydney and Campbelltown, but the teams weren’t announced until a week before we had to leave, so it was kind of hectic, but it’s great to be able to play for Victoria.”
Ashleigh said she looked up to Australian cricketers Mitchell Johnson, Sarah Edwards and Melanie Jones.
