ORGANISERS and artists involved in the Seventh Annual Yarra Glen Easter Art Show are preparing for the biggest show ever.
Close to 600 entries, up 100 on last year, will be on show and for sale including 317 framed works, 257 unframed works, sculpture, furniture and textiles.
The show is a drawcard for some of the Yarra Ranges most talented artists, among them the Nobes family of Launching Place.
Regular exhibitors Janine a painter and husband Peter, a sculptor and painter, will be exhibiting alongside their granddaughters Carla and her sister Nyomi.
Both are talented young artists following in the family tradition.
John and Janine’s son Paul is also a sculptor and daughter Sandra is a graphic artist whose work includes the impressive McCulloch’s Encyclopaedia of Australian Art.
Between them the family have entered eight framed works and 10 unframed.
John recalls the first shows held in marquees in the centre of Yarra Glen and says the exhibition has lost none of its “buzz”.
“Variety is important and I think the other thing which creates the atmosphere is the number of people you can get through. It creates a feeling of excitement if you have a good crowd,” he said.
Last year more than 3400 visitors attended.
For artists who often work in relative isolation, the show also provides an opportunity for artists to come together and see what is happening in the local art world.
“That’s also very stimulating and motivating both for the artists and for the viewers,” Janine said.
The show runs from Good Friday through to Easter Monday at Balgownie Estate Vineyard on Melba Highway at Yarra Glen.
Commissions from the sale of artworks will go to the Royal Children’s Good Friday Appeal.
