THE 2007 Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show is about to hit the bitumen.
Organisers predict the popular Queen’s Birthday event, which is held in the main street of Alexandra, will be the biggest ever.
The weekend opens on Saturday afternoon when most of the mobile gear rolls into town.
At nightfall, it’s time for dancing at the Country Hoedown. Four bands, Very Handsome Men, J R Williams and Band, Steve Eales and Band, and Renae Stewart will take to the stage with some also performing on the main stage on the Sunday.
On Sunday June 11, all the mobile gear – giant interstate rigs, timber trucks and contractor equipment and an incredible array of hot rods, utes and motorbikes, line up in the main street of the town for judging.
An auction, including a large range of transport related items, gets under way at 2pm.
On the Saturday there is the traditional ‘Rod Run’ from Alexandra out to Eildon and back with a barbecue for lunch.
But the day is just not about mobile gear.
The Alexandra’s Quilters’ Exhibition features the work of the district’s most creative stitchers and this year highlights the group’s Cherished Memory quilts, tiny wraps which are donated to the Mercy Hospital to comfort parents whose babies have died at birth.
Regional wine and food producers will be skiting with tasting and sales and there’s a fashion parade with a focus on casual and country gear.
One of Victoria’s biggest Woodchop Competitions will be held on the Sunday with the finest and fastest local and interstate axemen competing.
Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show Committee chairman Wayne Miller says that the event usually attracts between eight and ten thousand visitors and is strongly supported by the local community and businesses.
“Thanks to our sponsors in particular we usually finish with a modest profit and we distribute funds to a number of local community and charity causes so it is truly something by the community for the community,” Mr Miller added.
