Petrol fill up rush

WANDIN saw a flurry of cars enter the township on Friday afternoon in search of cheap petrol.
Wandin Motors petrol station offered fuel 10 cents cheaper than the average price around Melbourne for just one hour between 3pm and 4pm.
Owner Jason Rouget said that the move to offer the special price was a spur of the moment decision after his sister heard a call for independent petrol stations to make an offer on the radio early Thursday morning.
“It was just one of those things and we thought why not?” Mr Rouget said.
“It’s only for an hour, and as soon as we made the announcement it became absolute chaos.”
Mr Rouget said that there had been a lot of hype surrounding his decision to discount the petrol. “Being an independent is very difficult for us at the moment, we are not able to buy petrol at a set price,” Mr Rouget said.
“We buy a tank at one price, put in the ground, and when that’s finished we buy another.”
He said it was important for locals in the area to be able to take advantage of his offer.
“People out this way don’t get a choice on how much they pay for petrol,” Mr Rouget said.
“The transport system doesn’t back them up and we’re too far away to ride a bike.”
Lucky drivers who made the most of the hour long discount were limited to $100 worth of fuel but that didn’t worry them.
Many left with a full tank of petrol and a smile.
