Climb on board for transport summit: Cr Dunn

YARRA Ranges residents have been invited by councillor Samantha Dunn to take part in a major Eastern Transport Coalition public transport summit to be held at Manningham City Council on Friday July 4, from 8.30am to 11am.
The summit will discuss the changes needed to accommodate current and future public transport use and will feature keynote speaker professor Peter Newman, Professor of Sustainability at Western Australia’s Curtain University.
Professor Newman, who specialises in planning, is credited with developing the now common expression – automobile dependence.
Other speakers at the summit include professor Graham Currie, Monash University Chair of Public Transport and the RACV’s chief engineer Peter Daly.
Cr Dunn said ideas from the summit would be used to develop the basic requirements of a transport plan for the eastern suburbs and to lobby the State Government to undertake a more comprehensive study.
“The Eddington Report has highlighted what the ETC believes is the fundamental need for the State Government to develop a detailed public transport plan that address current and future transport needs, especially in the eastern and outer eastern suburbs.”
Cr Dunn said people who couldn’t make it to the summit could still participate by emailing their ideas to info@etc.org.au. To RSVP to the summit by Friday 27 June contact Melissa Sparrow via e-mail melissa.sparrow@knox.vic.gov.au or 9298 8126.
