Purse thief strikes

A MIDDLE aged woman had her purse stolen at Coles in Healesville while shopping.
Healesville police Sergeant Tony Van Gorp said the woman had a large sum of money in her purse, and when she left it out of sight an opportunistic thief stole the purse and caused great distress to the woman.
Sgt Van Gorp also reported that a young woman, at a licensed premises in the main street of Healesville, had her hand bag stolen between 11pm on 24 May and 12.30am on 25 May.
Sgt Van Gorp said that the woman had left her handbag wrapped in her jacket unattended inside the venue.
“It appears that again an opportunistic thief stole the bag containing money, mobile phone and other personal items valued at $300,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
He said that women should be very vigilant.
“Women should not be too trusting, because there are people out there that will seize and relish the opportunity if given to them,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
“This type of offences only happen when an opportunity is given.”

Car wash vandalised

HEALESVILLE police are seeking public assistance regarding damages caused at the Hunter Road Car Wash in Healesville on Sunday 25 May.
Sgt Tony Van Gorp said that around 3pm four youths were seen hanging around the car wash.
“It would appear that the young offenders have caused damage to dispensive machines and graffiti offences,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
“We are keen to hear from anyone with information concerning the damages; this is not the first time the car wash has been targeted.

Station wagon stolen

A SILVER Toyota station wagon was stolen from a retirement village in Don Road, Healesville between 7pm on 25 May and 9am the following morning.
Sgt Tony Van Gorp said that the elderly female owner of the vehicle was home when her car was stolen from her carport beside her unit.
Healesville police located the car near the tip in Mt Riddle Road on the following day.
Sgt Van Gorp said they were keen to hear from any members of the public with information.

Scrap metal thieves held

YARRA Junction police arrested two men on Thursday over the theft of scrap metal and copper from a residential Wesburn address.
One man was remanded in custody to the Ringwood Magistrate’ Court on Friday and the other was released on bail.

Graffiti youth charged

ON 28 May Healesville Police interviewed a 15-year-old youth who will be charged on summons with criminal damage related to graffiti on the Healesville Swimming Pool mural as well as burglary, theft and other charges.
