YARRA Glen’s Yering Station winery was celebrating last week after taking out another top award at the Victorian Wine Show.
The winery won its third consecutive trophy for Best Shiraz with its 2004 vintage Shiraz Viognier.
The award is the latest accolade for the wine which won a gold medal at the 2005 Royal Melbourne Wine Show and a silver medal at the 2005 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.
“We’re really pleased with the consistency, style and quality of the Shiraz Viognier we’ve been able to produce over the past six vintages,” chief winemaker Tom Carson said.
“The 2004 (vintage) is a great expression of our commitment to quality it’s full of classic cool climate spice, floral notes and has a luscious palate.”
In recent history, Yering Station has achieved great success at the Victorian Wine Show including a remarkable occurrence in 2003 when the top three wines in the Shiraz trophy tasteoff were all produced by the winery.
Amongst the first group of newgeneration Australian wine makers producing Shiraz Viognier, Yering Station has established itself as a leading producer of the blend.
In four vintages, the style has been awarded 16 trophies and 30 gold medals at such competitions as the International Wine and Spirit Competition, Tri Nations Wine Challenge and Royal Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide wine shows.
The 2004 Yering Station Shiraz Viognier, with a recommended retail price of $23, is set for release early next year.
