School doors close

WARBURTON Christian School principal Nathan Hill, along with staff and students, at will say goodbye to the school at the end of the year after falling numbers in recent years.
Director of Seventh Day Adventist Schools (Victoria) Brian Mercer said that while the council and teachers worked very hard to promote the school, the closure of other Adventist institutions in the area, the reduction in the number of students in the Upper Yarra and the high competition for the remaining 39 students have all led to the decision to close the school.
Principal Nathan Hill said that the majority of students would move to Edinburgh Adventist Primary School located in Lilydale on the campus of the Lilydale Adventist Academy and Edinburgh Early Learning Centre.
“It is great that most students are going to the same school.
“It will allow them to still be able to carry the strong sense of community that we have had here over the years,” Mr Hill said.
“I’m also pleased that the students and their families have an alternative school to go to in Lilydale.”
Mr Hill will relocate to an Adventist school in Berwick where he will take on a teaching role.
“It will be sad to leave Warburton but I look forward to the challenges of starting at a new school.
“It will be very different, with a bigger student population than I am used to,” Mr Hill said.
In the past a number of local organisations have showed interest in the site including the Warburton CFA and the Upper Yarra Community House but it is still uncertain what will become of the newly vacant land.
