Kay slams century

By Keith Thompson
OVERCAST skies greeted the YVCA players and rain high in the hills caused the odd game to be cancelled. As well, the Saturday evening and Sunday, steady rain caused the postponement of the Regional Under 21 matches and the inter-association games.
The Region 8 v Region 3 Under 21 match will now be played on Sunday 11 November at Darley starting at 10.30am, the YVCA being represented by Andrew Hoare and David Lever.
Saturday saw the commencement of the two-day rounds for the top grades and with the opportunity to bat for a longer period a number of centuries were scored – Andrew Kay with 123 not out led Seville to a stumps score of 6 for 282cc.
He was assisted by Leigh Aitkins with 46 and Stu Sculthorpe with 41, with Michael King taking 2 for 28 for Woori Yallock.
Warburton-Millgrove travelled to neighbouring Yarra Junction and batted first to reach a total of 212 all out.
Mick Walker on 49, Tim McKail on 49 and Adam Humphreys on 41 were among the run-getters as James Rogers 5/44 and S. Flutter 5/69 did the damage for Yarra Junction.
On a fast ground at the Grammar School, the Yarra Panthers made first use of their home track and it proved to be a good day, for at stumps there was a healthy score on the board of 6 for 237cc.
Tim Derham was on 85 and Mark Williams on 45, leaving Healesville in a situation of needing to bat well next week.
Coldstream hosted Wandin and took to the crease first but could only manage 91 before being dismissed – Liam Doughty 33 being the best as Scott Hasan bowled well to take 5 for 21.
He was assisted by Justin Mays with 3 for 24 but in reply to that rather meagre tally of 91, Wandin are in a spot of bother at 5 for 43 as Lambert and Pignataro ripped through the top order with 2 for 6 and 2 for 25 respectively.
Silvan are 0/9 at stumps on day one after dismissing Mount Evelyn for 181 with Kane Jones on 48 and Shane Luck on 40 in that tally. Silvan’s Sleeman took 4 for 16.
Other centuries were achieved by Gruyere Districts’ Matt Tilney who made 181, Hoddles Creek’s Jeremy Derix with 113, Yarra Glen’s Nick Tucker on 156 and Powelltown’s Gary McRorie with 148.
