Vince speeds to magic mark

– Kath Gannaway
WARBURTON-MILLGROVE full-forward and coach Vince Muccitelli kicked his 100th goal for the season on Saturday, becoming the first Victorian Country Football League player to reach the magic mark this year and the second player in Warburton’s history to kick a ton in one season.
Muccitelli kicked seven of the team’s 21 goals in wet and slippery conditions in the YVMDFL second division match against Yarra Glen. In career terms, Saturday’s effort was a hat-trick for the 39-year-old who was recruited to Warburton last season having already proven his goal-kicking prowess with Upwey-Tecoma with 100-plus tallies in the team’s 1999 premiership year, and again in 2001.
Muccitelli said the milestone goal was a great thrill.
“There are lots of highlights in football, premierships and awards, but this is pretty special – particularly doing it in 10 games,” he said.
Warburton-Millgrove Football Club president Rodney Woods said the milestone was a fantastic achievement for Muccitelli and for the club.
“It’s only the second 100 for the club and something like this really spurs the team on,” he said. John ‘Puddles’ Purdy kicked the club’s first 100 in 1979.
