Thieves break hearts

HEALESVILLE Police are asking anyone who has information about plants stolen from the Healesville fire station to call them.
Constable Chris Hickey said about $300 worth of plants, put in by volunteer firefighters to beautify the station, had been stolen between 27 September and 5 October.
“The thieves dug up one lot and then came back for another go,” he said.
They also damaged a security light.
“These people, who are volunteers working for the community, put in all this extra hard work to dress up what is a big building in the middle of town, and all they are left with is about 10 plants,” Const Hickey said. “It’s very disappointing.”
Brigade captain Graeme Bates said his members were upset and demoralised by the thefts.
“You don’t expect, when you are working for the community, this sort of thing to happen,” he said.
“We had a working bee to try to make the station look a bit better from the street, but I guess in the end someone thought they needed the plants more than we did.”
Anyone with information can contact Healesville Police on 5962 4422 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
