TWO non-government schools in the Yarra Valley are set to receive a major funding boost from the State Government.
St Brigid’s Primary School and Worawa Aboriginal College, both in Healesville, will share in an additional $380,494 being handed out to non-government schools in the Seymour electorate.
Seymour MP Ben Hardman said the new funding for the non-government schools was part of an overall package of $868 million in extra funding for education and training in Victoria.
“The extra funds will help meet the rising costs of education in non-government schools and ensure they continue to deliver a quality education,” he said.
“The funding boost is part of a four-year agreement so the schools know what extra funds to expect and can plan ahead with confidence,” he said.
Mr Hardman said the Bracks Government was committed to providing families with a wider choice of education options by boosting support to non-government schools.
“As a result of this funding boost, non-government schools in Victoria will now have access to an extra $151 million over the next four years,” he said.
“The Government’s new funding model also means that this additional funding is directed to schools with students most in need of extra support.”
Mr Hardman said the extra funding would also help ensure that non-government schools were accountable in helping to lift numeracy, literacy and retention rates.
