IT was a family affair for well-known Yarra Glen resident, Dorothy Fothergill when she celebrated her 90th birthday on 25 November.
Now a resident of Monda Lodge Hostel in Healesville, Dorothy said she celebrated the landmark birthday in the best possible way – surrounded by family and friends.
“I didn’t know I had so many – or so many family either.” she said.
Dorothy was especially delighted that so many of the younger generation of the family joined the party, including her twin great-great-grandsons who came from Ocean Grove to meet Dorothy for the first time.
Born in Yarra Glen, she has lived all her life in the area where she has been a tireless worker for any number of organisations including the Combined Churches’ Opportunity Shop, the Senior Citizens Club and the Uniting Church.
Dorothy has also been a good friend to Mountain Views Mail over many years ensuring the paper and the community was kept abreast of the goings-on, from hatches, matches and dispatches to more serious issues.
A motor accident in 1988 meant a change of pace for Dorothy, but she is ever resilient.
“I have enjoyed my life and would say, right up until 1988 I have just done what I wanted to, went where I wanted to and enjoyed myself helping as many people along the way as I could,” she said.
