HEALESVILLE Cricket Club’s Under 16A played Woori Yallock. With the season continuing to be played in football conditions, the game was reduced to a one-day game. Woori got off to a flyer and that was the end of the game, their openers putting on 70. G. Sanders 6/26 the pick of the bowlers. Healesville’s batting was solid but the run rate of five per over proved too much.
Under 14A: Woori Yallock bowled well to keep Healesville to 101 in a rain reduced game. Healesville bowled well to restrict Woori to 73. Best players: N. Wilkes, N. Hrabe.
Under 14B: Healesville batted first. With Lindsay Rowe scoring 5 not out, which is his highest score to date. J Denby, J Bager and Sam Denneit also batted well. In reply, Mt Evelyn won the game but not before a good bowling and fielding effort from Healesville. Plugger wast the best of the bowlers. Best players: L. Rowe and M. Davern.
Warburton Millgrove Cricket Club
Strachan Shield: A brilliant bowling and fielding performance saw Warburton dismiss Seville. M. Walker and L. Darwall bowled superbly. In Warburton’s second innings they reached 4/118 before declaring. L. Darwall and G. Sharp the top scorers. A. Kay captured 2/20. Set a target of 74 runs for outright victory, Seville lost quick wickets before holding on to finish. L. Darwall topped off a good individual effort.
Strachan Shield Reserve: In reply to Seville’s 8/227, Warburton batted poorly. T. Lewis top scored. A. Bell bowled superbly.
Strachan Shield 3: Seville was dismissed for 153 in reply to Warburton’s 136. M. Lord bowled well as did K. Hall and W. Williams. M. Walker batted well finishing on 52 not out to guide Seville to victory.
Under 16: In a one-day game, Marysville batted first. T. Kelly, B. Taylor and R. Walker the best bowlers. In reply Warburton smashed their way to 7/120 off 25 overs. J. Lewis and B. Taylor top scored in an improved effort.
Woori Yallock Cricket Club
Strachan Shield: Last week Woori Yallock scored 188, Julian Smith and Andrew Ferguson made the score respectable. Early wickets, wayward bowling and dropped catches made the game interesting until Michael King stamped his mark on the game. With Yarra Panthers losing the last three wickets for 3 runs and the game by 10 runs.
Strachan Shield Reserve: Last week Dean Worlley led the batting. He got good support from Max Jentsch, Cal Ferguson, John Ferguson, Chris Martin and Adam Whitworth. This week Luke Martin took 4/51 and a good win resulted against Mt Evelyn.
Under 16: A great innings of 50 not out from Brad Mowat was the standout. Fantastic fielding and tight bowling restricted Healesville.
Under 14: Healesville made 4/101 with the wickets evenly shared between Aamir, Ben Dolan, Dan Jennings and Andrew McMurray. Woori replied with 3/73. Trevor Barker getting his top score ever of 15 not out.
Hoddles Creek Cricket Club
Finger Trophy: Hoddles Creek batsman Brenton Derix scored a magnificent 208 runs to help his team with a big win over Powelltown in the Finger Trophy firsts on the weekend. The huge score takes away the disappointment of being dismissed at 98 a few game back. The innings consisted of 13 sixes and 14 fours in a wonderful effort.
Finger Trophy 2: Hoddles also had a win against Aura Vale with Bruce Davis making 78 and Scott Price a very valuable 54.
In the Thirds Hoddles Creek couldn’t complete the trifecta with Hoddles going down against Powelltown.
Yarra Junction Cricket Club
Strachan Shield: Wandin won the toss and batted first. Off to a solid start but then lost quick wickets. In reply, Yarra Junction passed them and went on to declare.
Strachan Shield Reserve: Silvan won the toss and sent Junction in and they struggled early losing wickets regularly until Norm and Matt Hammond put on 99 for the ninth wicket. Silvan lost quick wickets and was all out for 57 with Terry Ottrey taking 5 for 27 off 15 overs.
In the second inning Silvan battled hard. Then Junction took over bowling them out for an outright win. G. Fall and N. Spackman were the best bowlers.
Strachan Shield Reserve 3: Chasing Launch United’s 232, Junction started well putting on 80 before Stu Thomas went for 23. Frank Walker was next to go. Junction failed to win by one run losing the last three batsmen for 1 run.
