ON THE first day of Strachan Shield round 10 an even day’s play has set an exciting field for day two next week.
All five games could easily go one way or the other. Yarra Junction set Woori Yallock 252 with 107 being made by Stephen Flutter. Also making a century, Mick Walker 104 gave Warburton Millgrove 245 to defend against Coldstream.
Seville will need to bowl well against Silvan with only 170 to defend. This was only reached with a pair of 58s from Andy Kay and Scott Page.
Wandin’s 186 with 84 coming from T. McKwnon may look a little on the small side, but in taking a vital wicket and having Yarra Panthers 1/18 they still have a good chance. The final game sees the two teams vying for second spot on the ladder. Healesville’s 190 all out is well within the Mt Evelyn’s batsmen’s reach.
Other good performances in various lower grades were centuries by S. Price, Stuart Parker and B. Hanson. On the bowling side Brenton Styles took 6/42, L. Sarre 5/51 and G. Waixel 4/36 including a hat-trick.
