YERING Primary School has been awarded almost $60,000 in federal grants enabling the school to make significant improvements to their surroundings.
The $59,436 grant was awarded by Federal MP for Casey Tony Smith last week and is part of the government’s Investing in Our School’s programme.
The school will spend the money on air-conditioning, carpet and floor coverings, school ground improvements, the fitting of an art room and the building of an outdoor learning area.
Mr Smith officially announced the good news at the opening of the school’s brand new shade shelter, which was built over their playground for protection from the sun.
“The Australian Government recognises the importance of providing schools with facilities that will enhance the education and wellbeing of students,” Mr Smith said.
Principal Max Yardy described the shelter as essential for the students at this time of year.
“We are a SunSmart school and the new shade shelter provides added protection for our students in the hot summer months,” Mr Yardy said.
