Woori recovers in final



WOORI Yallock did well to get out of trouble and climb to a more respectable position in the D.J. Strachan Shield final against Yarra Junction.
The finals in all grades of the Yarra Valley Cricket Association commenced on Saturday.
Woori won the toss and chose to bat at the Warburton Cricket Ground, but were soon in trouble as the Yarra Junction bowlers took early wickets.
However, a strong innings of 65 in the middle order by Andrew Sharp pulled things back to a more respectable position of 9 for 202 by stumps,
Woori Yallock will be looking for a few more runs from the last wicket to give their bowlers a little more to work with.
In the R. A. Finger Trophy final at Woori Yallock, Hoddles Creek, batting first were 4 for 249 at stumps on day one.
Michael Batten 95, Brenton Derrix 56 were the leading scorers as the Launching Place United bowlers toiled hard in the heat led by Atkinson with 2 for 49.
At the Wandin Cricket Ground, the C Grade final is under way between Yarra Glen and Kinglake, who won the toss and were dismissed for 124.
D. Reid 27 not out J. Morgan 20, Grant Braden was the destroyer in chief taking 7 for 47 in a fine spell.
Yarra Glen, in reply, are in a little trouble at 6 for 109 with Braden also doing well with the bat to be 43 not out as Kinglake’s D. Smith took 4 for 24.
The D Grade finals at Seville 1 saw Yarra Junction recover from a position of 3 for 1 to be dismissed for 187 against Woori Yallock.
David Edwards 85, Adrian Hammond 37 stood out for Junction while for Woori Yallock Sanders bowled well to take 6/36.
In reply at stumps Woori Yallock are in some trouble it could be said at 6 for 49 Edwards having 3 for 15
While at Gruyere the E Grade match has Coldstream 0/7 in reply to Healesville’s 1st innings score of 302.
At Seville 2, the F Grade game has Silvan at 8 for 304 (Dean Carswell 66, J. Tromp 3/20) versus Hoddles Creek
The under 16 final (day 1) between Woori Yallock and Healesville Whites is under way at Seville.
Woori Yallock batted first and at stumps are 7 for 166 with Ben Monkhurst 53, A. Rowe 45 (relative of Jason and Jarrod).
In the Under 14 match, Woori Yallock batting first Yarra Junction Green are 3 for 204 with J Fall 41 not out and E Buckley 37 not out at the crease for the start of day 2 versus Hoddles Creek.
Coldstream were dismissed for 82 from 39 overs (Tweedie 18, Peck 3/15) in the Under 12A section against) Healesville Red who are 0/20 off 5 overs.
All finals continue on Sunday.
