Town’s feast of film

By Kath Gannaway
THE 23rd Annual Warburton Film Festival will start with a tantalising selection of 11 ‘entree’ short films leading into a two-day feast of films from around the world.
The festival runs from Friday night, 16 June to Sunday, 18 June at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre.
Film Society president Dagmar Limp said audiences could expect a weekend of ‘celluloid heaven’.
“The committee, staff and volunteers have all worked hard to make this festival the best one yet,” she said.
Following the official opening on Friday, On the Road 06 will screen films including the five-minute Butterfly Man to the ‘marathon’ 15 minute Theories of Flight.
Crooked Mick of the Speewah, directed by Phillip Smith, and Splintered, directed by Peter Templeman, are also on the list. Stuart Parkyn, producer of Splintered, will be at the screening.
The weekend program is a mix of short films and full-length with a broad genre from Australian and international filmmakers.
Saturday’s program includes The Chorus (France, 2004), directed by Christophe Barratier, Jedda (Australia, 1955), directed by Charles Chauval, Travellers and Magicians (Bhutan, 2003), directed by Khyentse Norbu, and Rize (US, 2005), directed by David LaChapelle. Sunday starts with What Comes After Why, a collection of short films made by some of the best talents in Australia’s film industry.
A range of ticket options is available, from single session to a multi-pass for two or more films and the season pass, which covers all the films.
A pass with the lot which covers all films, the festival dinner and lunches.
