YARRA Valley Arts Council can lay claim to yet another successful Summer School.
More than 150 people from youngsters to seniors – and many in between – enjoyed a week of art and music with experienced teachers.
“It was our 11th summer school and it keeps growing each year,” said Arts Council president Karen Mueleman.
Ms Mueleman said while the courses are very affordable, she believes it is the experience which brings people coming back each year.
“I think it is having that full-on week of total emersion in doing something with other people who have other interests, getting together for lunch, attending the dinner and the end of school concert and being able to see what other people are doing.”
In the four-day course on film-making, tutor Kim Beamish put young people in front of the camera to look at bullying.
“We came up with an idea for films on the theme, scripted them, did story boards and edited them all in four days,” he said.
His students were a mix of girls and boys, some with no experience at all and others who have already ventured into the exciting craft.
“It’s been interesting,” Mr Beamish said.
“We had a few technical difficulties but that’s part and parcel of the film-making process and in the end we came out with three pretty good films.”
About 100 people attended the end of summer school dinner at the RACV Club which followed an exhibition and concert by students.
The Summer School is held on the second week of January each year and the program comes out in September.
