THE Warburton Bowls Club held their Opening Day on Sunday with about 70 people present.
The day commenced with a warm welcome from chairman Eric Walsh on the green before the start of bowling. The weather was not kind and only three ends were played before rain halted proceedings.
The members proceeded inside where afternoon tea was ready to be served. After toasts to the Queen, RVBA, YVBA and MVDLBA and after suitable responses from Cr Bob Griffiths and Mountain Valley President Lorna Murphy and YVBA President Dick Lee Tet, the members enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea.
During afternoon tea, Mr Lee Tet proposed a toast to the visitors who attended from all the surrounding clubs. Following this, presentations were made to Winter Bowls winners and runnersup.
The Winter Pairs Championship was won by Shane Caneva and Pat Truman with runnersup Paul Byrne and Lee Dobson. The Winter Singles was won by Bob Griffiths with Paul Caneva runnerup. The L & N Barker Sets Play Singles was also won by Bob Griffiths with Peter Woods runnerup.
Following the presentations, Bowls secretary Ron Hall fanned the cards to get the winners of the day, which were Helen Bowie, J. Murphy, G. Burton and Lee Dobson.
The opening day concluded with presentation of flowers to the lady guests and the lady president.
