AUSTRALIA Post had denied allegations they are not keeping their promise to provide full postal services at the Healesville Walk PostShop.
Healesville resident Robyn Johnson, watchdog for the business and community members fighting against the closure of the PostShop, told the Mail that services had been cut, despite assurances from Australia Post they would keep it fully operational until accessibility and safety issues at the Main Street LPO were addressed.
Ms Johnson said parcels now had to be picked up from the Main Street LPO, it was no longer possible to arrange for letterbox drops, and that cards and some merchandise are not available.
However, Australia Post state communication manager Janice Macini said that the claims were unfounded.
“Anything at all to do with mail is still available there,” she said. “The only things they don’t have are as many non-core products such as greeting cards which are available at other outlets.”
Ms Macini said arrangements for letter box drops (unaddressed mail such as pamphlets) had always been done through the customer contact centre.
She confirmed the parcel service had been relocated to the Main Street LPO where access is through the front door.
Ms Macini said it was only the post boxes which are compromised in terms of access.
“There is disabled parking in the main street and longer trading hours mean people can access that parking outside the busy times,” Ms Macini said.
The said they have not had problems with people collecting their parcels.
On another battle front, the Communication Workers Union (CWU), say they are still in dispute with Australia Post over the criteria for closing the PostShop.
CWU Industrial Officer John Hogg told the Mail on Monday they had met with Australia Post who told them they were treating Healesville PostShop under their “closure policy”.
“We can’t find a definition of what that means and are looking to have further talks with them,” he said.
Ms Macini said in relation to the union issue Australia Post is confident they have met the necessary criteria to close the PostShop.
You’ve got the wrong mail, says Australia Post
